'Running Man' parodies 'Snow Piercer' class system - Yahoo! Philippines News

Another exciting episode of SBS TV ‘Running Man’ aired on August 25th, where the members engaged in thrilling games from star to finish in order to come in first.

The episode started with a parody of the snow elevator from the movie ‘Snow Piercer’. The members were assigned to be stationed at a particular floor based on their years of experience in the variety field. Yoo Jae Suk was thus assigned to the top floor, while Lee Kwang Soo occupied the basement right from the start.

So while Yoo Jae Suk had the luxury of eating steak at the top floor, Lee Kwang Soo could only feast on yōkan. Lee Kwang Soo thus decided to give his all to upgrade his level, and was determined to come out on top in his 1-1 battle with Gary who was on the floor above him.

The members then engaged in all sorts of games in order to get a good placing which including cracking eggs, hitting of hands, and others. The members no doubt brought lots of laughter to viewers, while trying to win the games to upgrade their level. But in a deep contrast to their determination to do well, they often appear comical and deflating while doing the games.

Meanwhile, we once again bore witness to the production team of ‘Running Man’ to use the latest trends for their episodes. ‘Snow Piercer’ is a hit movie that has been parodied countless of times by variety shows recently. tvN’s ‘Saturday Night Live Korea’ was among those who have done it.

‘Running Man’ also aped the class system of ‘Snow Piercer’, by according the higher ranked members with better benefits in terms of food, transport, and others. This allowed the members to feel the disparity between classes, and pushed them to strive to get an even better position, while creating more laugher for viewers in the midst of it all.

The episode was actually a prelude to the next episode, with Korea’s longest lasting idol group Shinhwa making their appearance. The Shinhwa members were modelled after the pirates from the movie ‘Pirates of the Carribbean’. But instead of looking awesome and imposing, the Shinhwa members came off looking humorous instead. But viewers will have to wait till next Sunday to see the Shinhwa members battle the ‘Running Man’ cast to lift the curse on the gold coins.
