SBS TV ‘Running Man’ held its strongest couple race in its most recent episode this past Sunday, where the ‘Monday Couple’ of Song Ji Hyo and Gary came out triumphant at the end of it all.
During the show, Song Ji Hyo and Gary together with the couple of Jo Jung Chi and Jung In battled it out during missions to secure all the gold bars that were the prizes for this episode.
There were missions like ‘checking out of a room’ and a quiz. There was also a mission where teams had to build boats out of paper cardboard, and clock the fastest time while steering their boat to the finishing line in a pool. The couple of Yoo Jae Suk and Kim Kwang Gyu surprised all with the fastest time despite having the only ‘boat’ that sank after the race. With Jung In stealing a gold bar from Kim Ye Rim during the game, the couple of Jo Jung Chi – Jung In and Song Ji Hyo – Gary came in joint first with 4 gold bars each.
Other than of Jo Jung Chi – Jung In and Song Ji Hyo – Gary, all the other couples had to return the gold bars that they were issued with at the start. The top 2 couple then had to make an individual decision on whether they will choose gold bars or their partner. If both members of a team select gold bars, all of it will be returned to the production team.
The first couple to make the decision was Song Ji Hyo and Gary. Gary chose Song Ji Hyo as expected, while Song Ji Hyo decided to reveal her decision through a scene that was from the movie ‘Love Actually’. Song Ji Hyo revealed through her sketchbook, “Did I choose gold bars? Or Kang Gary? The Monday Couple is the best!” revealing that she had chosen Gary. With both choosing partners instead of gold bars, Gary said excitedly, “Why did you do that? If you chose gold bars, we can split them.”
Meanwhile, Jo Jung Chi selected gold bars, while Jung In selected Jo Jung Chi. According the game rules, the both of them were able to keep their gold bars. But there was a hidden twist as the production team revealed, “As today’s race is a couple race, we have already determined prior to everything that the couple who chose their partner would get double the amount of gold bars that they possess.” And thus Gary and Ji Hyo had their gold bars multiplied and were named as the strongest couple for this episode.
